La Mòla de Salardú is located on the left bank of the Garonne, a small building with openings at noon (side door and window on the first floor and “lucana” on the upper floor) and with a four-sided roof. The corners were blocked with square stone blocks. The fish tank nurtured a rather wide channel, well defined by large pebbles, which is a short route and crosses the mill in an oblique direction. This mill had three millstones as evidenced by single gates that preserve the cuttings. On the other side the water came out towards the Garonne through a large arch. The interior of the mill retains the old machinery with its utensils.

The existence of mills is documented from ancient times, in 1273 the town of Salardú sold “carriage for millstones and for water called Humola at the head of the face called Pont Vilader at the end of the Varat exit”. Among the inhabitants of Salardú there is mention of two Fabri surnames (1313). In the 18th century it is known that the Salardú mill was privately owned, and that there was also a sawmill. In the 19th century, a modern “ressèc” was added on the banks of the Lauader with 20 HP of power, which has practically disappeared today. It belonged to the commune of Salardú. It is a tradition that the residents of Tredòs, Gessa, Bagergue and even Montgarri came there.

Dera Nhèu Museum, an obligatory tourist visit in the Aran Valley

Located just seven kilometers from the Baqueira-Beret ski resort, the Musèu dera Nhèu d’Unha hosts a documented exhibition on snow with worldwide references that make it a unique space on the European continent.

The permanent exhibition is made up of four sections distributed over three floors that address the meteorological phenomenon from a scientific, ethnographic and sports point of view through interactive audiovisuals and written and graphic historical documents. The harsh living conditions in these territories, sports related to snow and also the history of ski resorts are shown. The center is complemented by a space in the building of the Social Center of the municipality where temporary exhibitions and conferences are held.
