Naut Aran is the upper area of ​​the Val d’Aran, in the Pyrenees of Lleida, the only Valley of an Atlantic character that belongs to Spain. The Municipality of Naut Aran has 248.9 km2, it is the largest in the region, it occupies approximately 40% of the Val d’Aran.
It limits to the north with the French department of Arieja, to the south with Alta Ribagorça, to the east with Pallars Sobirà and to the west with Vielha e Mijaran.

The term includes the head of the Garona river; the Ruda river, with its tributary, the Aiguamòg river; and also the head of the Noguera Pallaresa, part of the Pla de Beret and the Montgarri valley.

Salardú, the capital of the municipality, is located at the confluence of the Unhòla river with the Garonne, at an altitude of 1,268 m.
Surrounded by peaks with significant altitudes, including Mauberme (2,880 m.), Montarto (2,830 m.), Barlonguèra (2,802 m.) and Baciver (2,644 m.). Of the numerous lakes that we find in the Val d’Aran (approximately 200 lakes), more than half are within the municipality of Naut Aran, and we find some of them with notable extensions and inns. In the Saboredo circus, the 13-hectare Lake Mayor stands out, the Colomers circus stands out the 12-hectare Obago lake, in the Restanca area the 35.8-hectare Mar pond stands out, the Torcido de Ríos of 30.5 Ha, and the pond|tin of Ríos of 27 Ha, at the headwaters of the Unhola river that stands out from Liat with 27 Ha.
